Day1: Nairobi City
- The Nairobi Serena Hotel (Bed & Breakfast): Upon arrival in Nairobi
- safari capital of the world, you will be met and chauffeured to the
elegantly sophisticated Nairobi Serena Hotel. It's a member of the Leading
Hotels of the World and the proud flagship of the Serena Hotels' fleet
of world-class hotels. Considered by many to be Nairobi's finest hotel,
the Serena stands amidst lush tropical gardens with panoramic views over
Nairobi's Central Park and the glittering downtown skyline. Despite its
pivotal central location, the Serena also remains true to its title and
offers an oasis of serenity amidst the bustle of one of Africa's most
vibrant capital cities.
Day2 : Maasai Mara
Game Reserve - Mara Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): This
remarkable day takes us to the land of the Maasai, a cattle-herding people
still proudly aloof from western civilization. When it comes to game-viewing,
there is nowhere in the world richer in wildlife or more eventful in encounters
than the Mara. A pristine wilderness of haunting beauty, it promises our
clients a profusion of wildlife, prolific bird life and the unprecedented
opportunity of catching up with all the members of the 'Big Five' in one
morning. As to scenery, the 1,800 sq kilometers of this veteran reserve
offer the classic mix of African imagery; miles of lion-gold grasslands,
shoals of lilac-misted hills, a meandering river, acres of thorn-bush
and mile upon mile of undulating wilderness.
Day3 : Maasai Mara
Game Reserve - Mara Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): Morning
and afternoon game drives will lead you to some of Africa's largest lion
prides, herds of zebra, antelopes, buffaloes, wildebeest, giraffes, cheetahs,
and hyenas. Secreted deep within the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the
Mara Serena Safari Lodge is the ultimate safari destination. Set high
on a bush-cloaked hill, embraced by arcing vistas and washed by a sea
of richly rolling grasslands, it stands centre-stage to one of Africa's
most dramatic wildlife arenas and has a ringside seat for the greatest
wildlife show on Earth, the legendary migration of the wildebeest.
Drawing its inspiration
from the traditional Maasai cultural motif of a cluster of domed, mud-colored
huts encircled by a "Boma" of brushwood, the Mara Serena offers
a rare blend of raw African splendor and sumptuous sophistication. The
essentially ethnic décor also draws on a vibrant color-palette
of sun-burst colors, embellished by a unique selection of Maasai art to
create the look and feel of a traditional bush encampment. The lodge features
individual rooms, each with their own balcony and view of eternity, a
sky-blue swimming pool and a spectacular restaurant, overlooking a water
hole where a fantasia of creatures collect to drink.
Day4: Serengeti National
Park - Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp(Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): Our
journey continues into the great grassland plains of Serengeti National
Park. The most exclusive of the Serena Group's many Safari venues, the
exquisite Kirawira tented camp is the epitome of classic safari camp luxury
and a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. Kirawira stands
high on the bluff of a bush-cloaked ridge, commanding panoramic views
over the endlessly rolling reaches and volcanic reefs of the Serengeti
National Park, Kirawira Camp is the epitome of colonially-styled safari
luxury. Designed in typically Edwardian style, it features an elegant
central meeting tent evocatively furnished with a tasteful selection of
chintz-covered chaises lounges, jewel-hued Persian rugs, antique escritoires,
wind-up phonograms, leather-bound travelling cases, brass shooting sticks,
carved rocking chairs, and stud-backed smoking chairs.
Day5 : Serengeti National
Park - Serengeti Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): Life in
the Serengeti is a complex and dynamic ecological system in which all
the animals and plants interact both with each other and with their environment.
No organism is static or exists in isolation and all are dependent on
the rains. The park is made up of several different vegetation zones:
in the dry south are the short and long grassland plains, where an average
of only 50cm of rain falls per year. In the centre lies an area of acacia
savannah whilst the western corridor marks a region of wooded highlands
and 'black cotton' soil curving in a great swathe to the edge of Lake
Victoria. To the north is wooded grassland, which concentrates along the
watercourses and tributaries of the Grumeti and Mara Rivers.
Day6 : Serengeti National
Park - Serengeti Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): Set high
on the saddle of tree-clad ridge commanding panoramic views over the endlessly
rolling reaches and volcanic reefs of the Serengeti, the Serengeti Serena
Safari Lodge is the ultimate fusion of traditional African architecture
and world-class style. Drawing its inspiration from the circular 'Rondavel'
dwellings and winding paths of a traditional Maasai village, the Lodge
features thickly-thatched, stone-built rooms, spaciously set amongst groves
of indigenous trees that are cooled by sparkling streams and papyrus-fringed
ponds. The circular bar, its roof supported by massive carven figures
of warriors, maidens and elders, looks out over the sky-blue, 'vanishing
horizon' swimming pool towards the miles of lion-gold savannah that lie
below, wherein is enacted the thunderous theatre of the million-strong
wildebeest migration. As for views, from lilac-streaked sunrise, to diamond-domed
night, the searingly sensational Serengeti delivers a series of timeless
volcanic vistas that are second to none.
Day7 : Ngorongoro
Crater Conservancy Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner):
After breakfast, take a drive in the Ngorongoro Crater Conservancy Area,
with a mid-day break for a picnic lunch. A brief stop is made at Ol Duvai
Gorge and museum, the site of the remains of prehistoric man. The Ngorongoro
Crater was formed millions of years ago by the collapse of a long extinct
volcano. The resulting 100 square mile depression, surrounded by a 2000
foot volcanic rim, contains water and forage necessary to support most
of the familiar African wildlife. Don't be surprised to see Maasai herders
and their livestock, especially on the crater rim; the Conservation Area
protects both wildlife and Maasai.
Day8 : Ngorongoro
Crater Conservancy Ngorongoro Serena Lodge(Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner):
Spend another day on the crater floor viewing game; as many as 30,000
animals populate the crater. Lions, cheetahs, and jackals prey upon large
herds of zebra, wildebeest, and antelope. The lake on the floor of the
crater supports wading hippos and a myriad of birdlife. Elephants are
rare within the crater, though lone, non-breeding bulls roam the region,
their great tusks reaching out before them. Arrange to visit a local Maasai
village and see how this proud, resourceful people live in harmony with
the animals.
Day 9 : Lake Manyara
National Park - Manyara Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner):
Today travel to Lake Manyara, an amazing wildlife sanctuary famous for
its tree climbing lions and dramatic views. It is located in a depressed
valley where the red and brown cliffs of the western wall of Great Rift
Valley seem to rise up out of the lake itself. Springs rising from the
base of the escarpment provide a welcome water supply. While the lions
may be shy (visitors who spot them are lucky indeed), Manyara includes
a variety of habitats, home to a variety of big game and a rich assortment
of birdlife.
Day10: Amboseli National
Park - Amboseli Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): After breakfast
we travel to Amboseli National Park near Kilimanjaro, whose magnificent
snow-capped peak soars to 19,340 feet. Our afternoon is spent game viewing
here amid the large elephant population, giraffe and predators, including
lion and cheetah. Framed against the glorious backdrop of Africas highest
mountain, the magnificently beautiful Mount Kilimanjaro, surrounded by
miles of rolling grasslands, patrolled by vast herds of elephant, shaded
by the lush, feathered-green of an acacia grove and hugging the banks
of a gently flowing river, this very traditional yet supremely luxurious
lodge is the safari destination of a lifetime. Against this magnificent
backdrop roam vast herds of elephant accompanied by a kaleidoscope of
other fabulous beasts - lion, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, baboon, gazelle
hippo and wildebeest to name but a few. There are also over 400 species
of birds, all manner of reptilian, flora and fauna and some of the most
soul-searing views in Africa.
Day11 : Amboseli National
Park - Amboseli Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): Amboseli
National Park provides the classic Hollywood image of Africa. Set in rolling
savannah scenery it is dwarfed by the presence of the pink-tinged, snow-capped
peak of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at 5,896 meters, is the highest free-standing
mountain in the world and topped by one fifth of all the ice in Africa.
The lodge itself draws on a subtle Maasai cultural motif, featuring natural
woodcarvings, traditional artifacts and a glowing selection of local art.
Sensitively located and built from ecologically sympathetic materials,
its architectural shapes, style, textures and colors reflect the true
essence of the African bush. They also enable it to blend effortlessly
into the landscape and work in gentle harmony with the natural environment.
Day12 : Amboseli National
Park > Nairobi City (Breakfast): An early morning game drive is followed
by a hearty breakfast. Take your time to say africa bye soil. We leave
when you're ready. In the evening we chauffeur you to the airport and
bid you bon voyage as you catch your flight home.
